What is Looker Studio?

A business intelligence tool for building interactive reports and dashboards is Google Looker Studio, formerly known as Google Data Studio. Google also announced a paid version of Looker Studio named Looker Studio Pro.

Google wants to promote Looker as the face of all current Google Cloud data analytics products and combine all of its business intelligence tools under one name.

Google Analytics 4 API Quotas Explained

The amount of data that a user is permitted to access or transfer over a certain period of time is constrained by quotas. These restrictions are in place to prevent particular users or requests from using excessive amounts of bandwidth and to ensure that the system can provide users with consistent service.

There are multiple distinct kinds of API quotas in GA4 that apply to various kinds of API requests.

Google Analytics 4 API has three request categories:

  • Core

  • Real-time

  • Funnel

Each category has its own quota restrictions, and you will only be charged if you use the category. As a result, a single request won't use up both Core and Real-Time quotas.

What are the consequences?

Google made quota modifications for Looker Studio public on November 10, 2022. Since then, Looker Studio says that going over the new limitations causes a configuration error notice to appear.

Users could use 50,000 tokens per day in Google Analytics 4 up until this point. But following the upgrade, a GA4 property is limited to making the following API requests:

  • 10 tokens active at once

  • 1,250 tokens each hour

  • 25% of daily tokens

According to Google, concurrent and hourly requests strain the API quotas the most. It takes about ten requests to create even a simple dashboard or chart.

Following is how the limitations are divided:

A common error notice for Looker Studio reports and widgets that violate Google Analytics 4 quotas is as follows:

  • Failed to fetch the data from the underlying dataset.

  • This property has issued too many potential threshold requests in the last hour.

  • Exhausted concurrent request Quota, please send fewer requests concurrently.

  • This project/property has issued too many requests in the last hour.

  • Sorry, we have encountered an error and were unable to complete your request.

Ways to work around the GA4 API quota limitations

Solution 1: BigQuery

To get around the restrictions imposed on the original Looker Studio GA4 connector, you could use BigQuery, which enables you to store all of your Google Analytics data in a data warehouse and connect it directly to Looker Studio. But because historical data is not available, your data will only be accessible from the day you integrate GA4 with BigQuery.

The drawback of adopting BigQuery is that it necessitates extensive technical knowledge.

Solution 2: Google Sheets

An alternative is to get Google Analytics 4 data first and then import it into Google Sheets before sending it to Data Studio.

This technique does have a number of drawbacks, though. First off, Google Sheets is not designed to store a lot of data. Second, using Google Sheets may lead to manual entry mistakes that have an impact on the final reporting.

Solution 3: Partner Connectors

Reporting tools like Supermetrics can be used with the GA4 connector. Relatively cheap if only using the basic membership.

Solution 4: Upgrade to GA4 360

If the quota restrictions in Google Analytics 4 are a major issue, you can upgrade to Google Analytics 4 360, although it is very expensive. Almost ten times the quota limits are yours, along with numerous other advantages.

Final Thoughts

If the quota restrictions in Google Analytics 4 are a major issue, you can upgrade to Google Analytics 4 360, although it is very expensive. Or you can employ any of the above solutions.
